How to Start Designing a Life You Love...NOW!!

​How to actually START creating a life that you love.

​What is holding you back from making the changes you know you need to make to  alter the direction of your life?  Fear, mindset and limiting beliefs. So either you are going to start and make a change or you are going to make an excuse. This post urges you to stop finding reasons why you can't and instead looks at how you can start:
  • Changing your Mindset
  • Asking Empowering Questions
  • Learning & Gaining more Skills
  • Taking Action
  • Overcome Your Fears

​The very first thing that we (yes me too) needs to do to become a life designer is to stop making excuses!!! Designing a life that you love is all mindset! The reason you haven't started, made the change, did the thing, all because of the limiting beliefs that you are holding on to and if your honest because you are worried about what other people will think.

Don't have time, ok.  No money or resources to start, you're right.  You don't know the right people or have a network, probably true. Not possible to lose those 5 pounds, ok you get to keep it.  If you tell yourself you can't, your right.  So why not change the dialogue?

The number one thing that stops us from moving forward and taking control of our lives is our mind set.  You want to make excuses as to why you can't accomplish something, guess what, you get to keep them and you get to stay where you are in life.  You want to make a change, then change your attitude.  So stop finding reasons why you can't and instead……

CHANGE YOUR MINDSET

We all have the negative voice in our heads that is telling us we can't, we are not good enough, it's not possible.  But, what we need to do is, practice taking control back over our own minds.  While we will never remove that negative voice completely, what we can do, is use it as a trigger to switch the dialogue.  So when the voice tells you that you don't know how to do it, you recognize the limiting belief and reframe.  Yes (crazy voice in my head ?), I don't know how to do it…..yet.  Now you are telling yourself a different story, you went from I can't, to, I can't right now,  but let's look for the possibilities of how I could in the future.  Change your beliefs from a fixed mindset into one where you are a learner.  This way you can reframe every negative into a learning possibility! The best I have heard to speak on this subject, and who has made it his life's mission to help people develop a growth mindset is Tom Bilyeu.  Check out two of his many videos on the topic below where he digs into this even deeper so you can pull out the golden nuggets that speak to you and help you adjust your mindset.

ASK EMPOWERING QUESTIONS

When you are constantly feeding yourself all of the reasons why something cannot be accomplished, of course your mind will also look for reasons to prove that this is right.  Your mind wants you to be right and so it will look for reasons to make it so. So instead start asking yourself positive questions instead.  For example:

  • Who could help me achieve this goal?
  • Where can I find the missing information?
  • How could I acquire these skills?
  • Who is already doing this and how can I learn from them?
  • What if this were easy?  What would it look like then?

By asking yourself these kinds of open ended opportunity based questions, you are training your mind to look for solutions and possibilities, you are training your growth mindset.  There is always a way if you are dedicated to finding it. So ask yourself some empowering questions and get better results.  Simple as that.  Check out an article from the king of asking better questions, Tony Robbins, for another 3 questions that you can ask yourself each day to empower you and frame the way you experience your day completely. START GAINING SKILLS​

A fulfilling life, is the pursuit of learning, growth and striving to reach your full potential.  So, now that you have a learner / growth mindset, start learning!!! Always wanted to start your own business? Get a coach, take an entrepreneur course, watch YouTube videos, learn how to do it and then put it into action.  Understand who you need to be to achieve your ultimate life goals then go after those skills and start designing your work life. The investment in your education is something that can never be taken from you and that you can intentionally grow, this is priceless!

TAKE ACTION

​Next, take action before your ready!  Here is a secret….Nobody is ever fully ready before they start, they jump in and figure it out along the way.  Thinking about something never got you anywhere but deliberate and consistent action taken over time sure did!  A lot of people that shouldn't have succeeded or achieved their dreams have….by taking action.  So stop letting your limiting beliefs hold you back, stop making excuses and start taking action, now!

OVERCOME YOUR FEARS

For the majority of us, the number one thing that holds us back from doing the things that we dream of is fear.  Fear of what the consequences may be, what others may think of us or the fear of rejection.  Because that negative voice in our head tends to be quite loud we end up thinking ourselves in circles and not being able to look at the fear objectively.  That is why I think that the fear setting exercise from Tim Ferris is so helpful, it walks you through your fear and allows you to see it clearly and understand all your options.  Then you can make an informed decision with risk mitigation plans already in place should you need them.  Check out these videos and complete the exercise for yourself!!!
