Have you ever been super excited about an idea you had and you were so sure that it would be a success and were looking forward to implementing and then didn't go through with it? If you're like me and most others this has happened many times, leaving me completely discouraged and questioning my ability to actually act and follow through. Then I ran into these 4 success principles that was shared by Dean Graziosi and realized that a lot of the times what was actually holding us back is our mindset resulting from the stories that we have been sold and the well-intentioned but often times bad advice we have been getting from our friends and loved ones.
With that said let me summarize for you the 4 ideas to overcome your fears and get excited again about going after our dreams.
1. Stop surrounding yourself with negativity.
There is a constant download of news and information coming at us, and unfortunately, the truth of the matter is that 90% of it is negative. The reason is, that negative news is what sells and attracts a bigger audience. We are rarely told the good news stories that leave us feeling hopeful and uplifted but rather all of the terrible things that are going on which keeps us in a sub-optimal state, one that is certainly not geared for high-performance and motivation. In order to change our state and our mindset to set ourselves up for success we need to block out all of the noise. So give yourself some time off from the news and from negative media and only allow yourself to intake positivity. The adage we are what we eat is the same for the brain - we are what we consume, so let it be empowering!
2. Stop Focusing on Your Weaknesses.
So often we have heard in school and from our parents that we need to focus and improve on our weaknesses in order to get better and be successful. Terrible at math? You need to double down and focus all of your energy to get better at it. This is the story we are told. However, in reality what we should be doing is focusing on our and developing our strengths. This is what is actually going to get you results in the real world. And although we may want to, we are never ever going to be the best at everything, it is just not feasible. So it makes more sense to outsource your weaknesses to someone else while you focus on your core competencies which will ultimately bring you to the goal you desire.
3. Stop Taking Bad Advice.
Everybody has an opinion. The moment you have an idea and you tell a friend or a family member they will all have a reason as to why it won't work, have you ever noticed this? I do believe that it is well-intentioned and they want to limit your risk however their comments usually directly relate to their own fears that they are projecting onto you. Plus, when you are sharing your big dream it is normally with people that are inexperienced with it and in no position to give advice. If your friend is telling you that the business you want to start is too risky and most businesses fail with all the reasons why it is not a good time in the market to get started but has never started a business themselves why in the heck our we listening to them? Don't let bad advice from inexperienced people squash your dreams. Roosevelt said it best:
4. Know Your Why.
This last piece of advice (from someone actually experienced to give it) is the best and most life changing. It is actually an exercise that helps you dig deep and identify your true "Why" behind your hopes and dreams. It goes beyond the standard responses that initially surface from our minds and makes us mine deeper and deeper into our hearts to come up with the true emotional driver as to "why" we want something. And when we tie a goal to a compelling and clear why there is no stopping you as you will overcome all obstacles in order to achieve the bigger picture.
The exercise is called 7 Layers Deep. It essentially is asking yourself this question:

I would love to hear from you in the comments what you thought of the seven layers deep exercise and what your final "why" turned out to be and how it may have shifted your perspective. I know that for me when I stopped caring what others thought, I removed the negative noise from my life and uncovered my compelling "why" behind my desires for success my life really started to unfold and my mindset shifted allowing me to finally take action and follow through on the things that I have been dreaming about for years.
