In this article:
Have an amazing date without ever leaving your house

Looking for some ideas to spice things up, create some memories, and promote connection in your relationship?  I got you covered with:
  • 10 at home date night ideas
  • Unique ways to connect even when you can't (or don't want to) leave the house
  • Cool new ways to increase your connection
  • Ideas to add a little romance back into your life

With dating opportunities being limited right now due to COVID 19. And considering the increased amount of time spent at home potentially with your partner. It is more important than ever to put some attention on the relationship and especially the connection and intimacy.

With that said, I have put together some unique at-home date ideas (Not the same ideas you see everywhere else)  that you can plan right away to re-establish the connection and add a little fun into your at-home routine.

1.  Get to know each other.

Yes, I know that some of you who are reading this have been with their partner for years and believe that they know everything about them.  But as time passes people change and grow and so do their view on some things.  There are also questions I am sure you never thought to ask your partner.  In order to strengthen the connection, get to know your partner on a deeper level and have some fun with the app "Gottman Card Decks".

Check it out here.

This free app was created by the Gottman Institute which is a center that focuses on relationships. The app provides questions, statements and ideas for improving your relationship. Some info:

  • 14 different decks of cards that include more than 1000 flashcards
    • If you choose "Love Maps" for example they have cards to help you get to know your partner better and has great date night ideas
    • If you choose the "Salsa Decks" they provide cards to add a little spice into your intimate life. The decks range from mild -hot  ?
  • You can "Star" your favorite cards to easily return to them later
  • You can shake your phone to get random card picks amongst decks

The institute's mission is to serve couples and parents and improve their lives through products and programs that educate, inspire and heal. It is based on over 4 decades of research and is one of the world's most trusted relationship companies.

I have been with my partner for years now and there were questions in there that I never thought to ask, and the answers surprised me.  They also have cards offering little tips as to how to add a little more appreciation to your relationship along with specific date night questions and the list goes on.  This is something you can easily plan, is a deep conversation starter and something different than the usual date night, so give it a try and create a deeper connection.

2.  Mystery Box Challenge.

Do you like to cook?  It can be a lot of fun to put on some nice music, open a bottle of wine and cook together and share the meal you created.  To add a little fun to this why not try a "Mystery Box Challenge".  I came up with this idea based on one of the challenges from the show MasterChef. The show contestants are given a "Mystery Box" of  different ingredients that they must use as a base to cook up a unique dish within a time limit.  Check out the video clip below to get a better understanding:

Now it doesn't have to be as high stress as you see it here in the competition (unless you want it to be), put as much or as little time on the clock as you would like.  You can each go to the grocery store and choose your "Mystery" Ingredients for each other.  Then, start cooking, enjoy the process, and the surprise of what turns out to be the final dish that you can sit down and enjoy together.  Take pictures and make an evening out of it.  This is for sure a date that you can try from a box, that is a definite outside of the box date idea ?

3.  Do the Q&A Couples Challenge.

This is a fun challenge for couples to try where you sit side by side, close your eyes and you're both asked a question at the same time.  Some example questions include:

  • Who is the messier one out of the two of you?
  • Who is the funny one?
  • Who apologizes first after a fight?
  • Who spends more money?
  • Etc.

Then, with your eyes closed your point at yourself or your partner to answer the questions while being videotaped.  The results will surprise and make you laugh along the way.  This challenge was developed by the TikTok app to promote uploading videos and sharing the fun.  Check out some more info on this here (It is item 7) and below check out compilation of some clips from some couples that have completed the challenge to give you a taste of what's to come:

Try it out with your partner and get some of your "couple friends" to give it a try too and share your results.

4.  Wine and cheese tasting.

You and your partner each pick out a bottle (or two ?) of wines that you would like to taste and look up the information on each, like ~ where it's made, the flavor notes, what it pairs with, etc. Get some cheese, bread and fruit to pair with your wine, light some candles, put on some music and set the table.  Then enjoy the wine together, try to taste the different flavors and notice the colors and enjoy each other's company.

You can download a free wine tasting sheet here to fill in your thoughts on the wine.

Also, find a more in-depth article here providing tips for hosting your own at home wine tasting.

This is something you can do with your partner at home or you can even do this with your friends online together during the quarantine.

Enjoy.

5.  Create a Paint Masterpiece your Partner.

For something a little more sexy and intimate you can get some special made paint kits for couples to use to create a "one-of-a-kind" abstract art piece while being intimate.  It's messy, it's sexy and it's unique.  Want to check it out and get your own kit delivered to your door with the ~ Love Is Art Canvas and Paint Kit - Abstract Art Through Intimacy:

Then hang your one of a kind art with pride, each time you pass it, it will stir your sexy memories and no one else has to know ?.

6.  Watch a Movie.

This one may be cliché but you know what they say it's an oldie but a goodie.  Put together your favorite snacks, dim the lights, light some candles and get cozy and watch a romantic movie together.  Some no fail movie tips:
  • The Notebook
  • P.S. I love You
  • Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  • Love Actually
  • Crazy, Stupid, Love
  • No Strings Attached

This is a great way to spend an evening with your partner evoke an emotional bond.

7.  Have a Health & Wellness day.

Get a 2 for 1 deal here, have a great day with your partner and enjoy the health benefits that go along with it.  Take a day on the weekend and plan some physical fitness together:

  • Go for a long walk or run
  • Do some yoga or HIIT exercises at home (There are so many guided exercises you can watch together on YouTube)
  • Do an at home exercise video of your choice

Get a little sweaty together.  Then fuel yourself with some fruit infused water and a healthy lunch.  You can check out some healthy recipes at some of my other blog posts here or check out my Pinterest board here for other recipe ideas.

Then finish off the day with your own at home spa.  Put on some relaxing music, get into your robes, each of you enjoy a long bath with some magazines and a mimosa and give each other a facial and/or a massage to calm down, relax and finish off your self-care day together.

Check out some couple massage tips here and here if you need some coaching. Here is a "how-to" for doing facials at home.

Tip* When I give my partner a facial at home, I draw him a bubble bath and prepare a cloth, the face cleanser, exfoliator, cream cleanser, toner and mask beside the tub.  I then have him get in and I sit at the back of the tub with his head between my legs.  I then:
  • Dip the cloth in the warm water and place it over his face for a moment and remove then,
  • Apply the cleanser and clean while massaging the face, then remove with the cloth
  • Do the same for the exfoliator & Cream cleanser
  • Use a make-up remover pad to apply the toner
  • Then apply the mask and leave him and the mask to sit for the prescribed time and let him know when to rinse it off.

My partner loves this and it is a great way to relax and connect together, while getting your skin care benefits as a bonus.

This date at home is one that you can both feel good about for more reasons than one.

8.  Create a Playlist.

Block some time together and come up with songs that remind you both of each other and times you have spent together.  Then create a playlist together using those songs.  This is something that you can go back to and refer to anytime you want bring up the loving feelings or memories and will remind you both of each other.

Once you have the playlist.  Take an evening, light some candles, have some wine and dance together to your favorites songs that you have created. It will be an evening to remember and a priceless playlist you have for years to come.

9.  Pleasure each other.

How often do you really take the time to be with each other and pleasure each other?  To really connect and take your time and just enjoy the feeling of making the other feel good.  Block out some time, lock the doors and try some tantric massage on each other to really spice things up.

Check out some techniques and poses for beginners here and here.

I promise you that there will be no complaints from this date night and it will really increase your intimate connection with each other.

10.  At-home Picnic.

Create an indoor picnic for you and your partner.  Lay out a blanket and some pillows on the floor and put out a spread of food and drinks for you and your partner to enjoy.  Put on some music from your playlist from above and enjoy each other's company while having some wonderful food.

There doesn't have to be a pandemic in order to invest in your relationship and schedule some quality time with your significant other.  You really should block out time together at least once a week to keep the relationship strong and interesting.  By having some at-home options , you can mix it up a bit, save some money and to add a little spice into your everyday life.

I would love to hear your feedback on some of the date nights that you tried and any other unique at-home date night ideas you have in the comments below.
