A tribe is essentially a group of like-minded people that form a community to spend time together, support each other, share ideas and are connected on the basis of similar ideals. The importance of creating and surrounding yourself with a tribe cannot be understated. As part of designing a life that you love, you need to surround yourself with people that you can count on that foster each others personal development, that have a deep connection and act as a support system for each other.
Now I can hear some of you saying, well that's all well and good but I don't have a tribe, or, I have a tribe but I want to connect on a deeper level. I completely understand this, as an expat myself who has moved across the world to a non-English speaking country with no friends or network I can tell you I relate. I have worked hard over the past few years to develop my tribes (yes, I have more than one but more on that later) in order to grow the connections that are so important to our overall health. Here are a few tips to start create a tribe if you don't have one:
The following videos by Lori Harder express the above points and dives into the subject even deeper with more tips for you to use when you are either first developing a tribe or trying to build a deeper more meaningful connection with your current tribe. Trust me, you will want to take if from her as she literally wrote the (bestselling ?) book on it. Which you can get here ~ A Tribe Called Bliss ~ as an additional tool in your arsenal on the tribe building journey. With her tribe in tow, she has become a fitness expert (& cover model), life coach, event coordinator and successful multiple time entrepreneur (& millionaire) so if you want to learn how to create a tribe to support you in becoming the best version of yourself, she is the one to guide you. For those of you on the go, check out Lori's podcast episode that she did with her equally uber successful husband where they discuss up leveling your tribe and the importance of doing this to accomplishing your goals.
As I mentioned, it is important to also have more than one tribe. For instance, I have a core "friends tribe" where we like to do similar things together, like sports, cooking and hanging out but I also have a work tribe for adding value to my industry, creating networks and growing my career, of course I have the Be Sharp tribe to focus on a well-rounded approach to creating a building a life that I love and my "family tribe". And as you would have heard from Lori, having more than one tribe is important as we are multi-faceted individuals with many different areas of life. So while having a strong friends group or tribe is important it is just as important in business and/or career to find your tribe.
There are a group of people that are already out there that want what you are offering or are in the same industry as you and want to grow and be successful. Find these people and add value to them and see how together you can create momentum and the shifts that you want to see in your business or career. Focus on that niche of people, the ones who belief what you believe, and you can create a real change. To further illustrate this point for you check out the Ted Talk by Seth Godin. It's short and funny and I don't know another human who is as articulate as Mr. Godin on this subject and the importance of tribe to our futures. Since we are on the topic of tribe, that is precisely what it is I am working to create with Be Sharp. I want to make a space for like-minded women who are committed to their self development, who want to grow, connect and have the belief that they can create and design a love that they actually love! This is why it is important to me to share the knowledge I have collected and the resources and tools with fellow women. So that we can all be surrounded by the positive messages and practical insights on how to take it to the next level because, if you are like me, perhaps you don't currently have that support network surrounding you, so we need to make it ourselves and believe in ourselves to get to the next stage of our potential. So let's create our up-leveled tribe together and…. Design OUR Lives ~ Be Authentic. Be You. Be Sharp I would love to hear from you in the comments. Tell me about your tribe or the ones that you are looking to create. Have any tips or stories to share? Let's connect down in the comments or on the other socials.
