With the Christmas season fast approaching it got me thinking, what is it, that makes this time of year so special and feel so different to any other? What is that magic sauce that makes everything seem so extra exceptional? I know that it's not just about the gifts on Christmas Day, it's much more than that. It's traditions! Everyone has their own and differing sets of traditions that they do each year and this is what works to infuse the season with an air of sacred specialness. With so many great ideas out there I wanted to share a list of different traditions that you could try this year to make your holiday season even more magical.
List of 10 Christmas Traditions to Start to Make Your Christmas Even More Magical:
1. Christmas Movie Night. Everyone has a Christmas movie favorite that they love to watch. So gather your family or friends get your favorite snacks and have a Christmas movie binge night all together.
2. Gift Wrapping Girls Night
I have to admit that gift wrapping has never been my favorite Christmas task. That was until I decided to infuse it with some fun. Invite your best girlfriends over have a glass or two of sparkling wine, put on some music and wrap together. You can check out all the different gifts and enjoy great conversation as you wrap making wrapping fun and something that you can actually look forward to each year!
3. Christmas Party.
Plan a Christmas party earlier in December and invite your family and friends over for some food, drinks and good times. Bringing everyone together to have a care-free night each year is a perfect way to set the tone for the holiday season. Also, every year you could switch the host of the party and have it another place so that it is not always the responsibility of one person and each party will have a different feel which is great!
4. Giveback.
Plan to do some form of giving back, it will help others and will make you feel great. Plus it will set a great example to your kids or family and motivate them to do the same. Every little bit helps and as it is the giving season it is a great time to look outside of our own needs and support the needs of others. 5. Christmas Light Drive.
Put your family in the car, pack some hot chocolate and take a drive around the different neighborhoods in your area to check out the Christmas lights and decorations. Some of these houses are just masterpieces and fun to see. Some cities even have online maps to the best locations that you can follow to plan your route.
6. Be Grateful.
Take some time alone with a journal to reflect on the past year and list as many things as you can think of to be grateful for this year. Often, time passes so quickly and we don't take the time to celebrate the wins or the small reasons to be happy that we all have. So take stock of all the wonderful things in your life from the past year and take a moment to dream about all of the wonderful things in the year to come. This will get you in a great state of mind and in the Christmas spirit!
7. Christmas Playlist.
Take all your favorite Christmas songs that give you the warm and fuzzies and put them all together in your own personal ultimate Christmas music playlist. You can have the music playing in the background throughout the house to keep you feeling those Christmas vibes.
8. Gingerbread House.
Each year I decorate a gingerbread house with my son and we have the best time. I cheat and buy the pre-made gingerbread kit with all the supplies in one box. But this is a great tradition to do with you kids. Plus, you can eat it as a snack later in the month for your Christmas movie night.
9. Christmas Baking Day.
Host a Christmas baking party. Bring together your baking friends and family and have each person bring over their favorite recipe and ingredients. The idea is that each person makes an extra batch of their baked good per person attending. Then everyone helps each other bake and goes home with an extra batch of baking that you swap at the end. This lessons the amount you need to bake and you get to try some other great recipes. So put on that Christmas Playlist and start baking!
10. Create a Photobook.
Look through all of your photos from the past year and put together a photobook with a collage of your favorite memories. You get to re-live your best moments and it also makes a great gift for parents and grandparents. Then each year you can look at the photobook from the previous year passed and see how fast everything changes so you can savor the present moment just a little more. There you have it, some new traditions that you can add to make the holiday season even more special. I would love to hear all about your special traditions in the comments below!
